How to resolve the VNC connection problem in Windows XP?

In Windows XP, you may face the VNC connection problem due to firewall.

Solution 1: Recomended

If the firewall is enabled, add the 5900 port in the exception list. Follow the procedure below.


  • Click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
  • Click "Windows Firewall" button.
  • In the Firewall window,
    • Select "Exceptions" tab.
    • Click on "Add Port" button. Enter the name as "vnc" and the port as "5900".
    • Click "Ok" button.



Solution 2: Disable the firewall. (Not recomended)


  • Click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
  • Click "Windows Firewall" button.
  • Click "off" checkbox and click "ok" button.

2. Another issue can be due to symentec also. If you installed the symentec virus scanner check the "Symentec Network Drivers Service"
