If you get the following message while installing the SQL 2005 Express Edition

The SQL Server service failed to start. For more infomation, see the SQL Server Books Online topics,
"How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually."

Solution :
Uninstall the SQL 2005 Software from Add/Remove Programs.
Delete the SQL registries from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server
Delete the SQL server folder from C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server (Delete this Folder)
Delete the services name from Command Prompt or following registry path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesMSSQL$GFT (Delete this Folder)
Restart the machine and install the SQL 2005 Express Edition.
it will be install without any problem.
